Here at T&C, we pride ourselves on our discerning eye for quality. With Tried & True, our editors will give you an inside look at the pieces they simply cannot live without.
You know those pieces in your closet that you don’t have to think twice about grabbing? I can tell you mine without hesitation. It’s the La Ligne Collegiate Sweater, and there are about eleventy billion reasons why that’s the case, but I’ll try to keep it brief.
I love a warm white and ivory tone year round, which seems like a great place to start. This sweater, which just so happens to be made of recycled cashmere, is a lovely soft ivory that renders it just as appropriate in the winter as it does in the summer. There’s just something easy about the tone.
Then the fit—it’s easy and slightly oversized (I wear a small), but the details keep it from looking sloppy. Think: the drop sleeves, distinct ribbing at the neck, cuffs, and hem, and of course, the blue stripe details on the arm for a touch of prep-factor. All in all, these come together that make for a knit that feels elevated in its simplicity.
Pair it with jeans or a pair of cut offs for a chilly walk on the beach or with a pair of leggings for your airport outfit, it really doesn’t matter. You will look good. You will get compliments. The oversized nature makes it all the easier to seamlessly swap into just about any look.
Case in point: yes, I wear this when I am looking my most casual. Yes, I also wear this when I want to look polished at the shore. Yes, I bring it with me to pair with my dresses when I go out to dinner and know I will freeze in the AC. And yes, you guessed it, I bring it to the office with me to stay toasty in the frigid temps there , too.
Another plus: I’ve clearly worn this piece a great deal since I got it in December, but thus far there’s been no pilling. For me, that’s worth the price alone. Like I said, it belongs in any wardrobe as an unfussy staple you can add without a second thought.
