Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce continued their hard launch in New York City this past weekend. After Swift flew to Kansas City to watch Kelce play on Thursday night, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end joined her in New York.
On Saturday night, Swift and Kelce were hand-in-hand as they attended the Saturday Night Live afterparty at Catch Steak, and Sunday night, they were spotted again leaving dinner in the West Village.
On Saturday, Swift wore an all-black look, including a Versace corset top and pants, and carried Aupen’s Nirvana bag. She completed her outfit with a houndstooth wool trench coat from Gant (which is unfortunately now sold out)—her second time this autumn she has been spotted in the print. Last month, while out to dinner with Greta Gerwig, Laura Dern, and Zoë Kravitz, Swift wore a houndstooth coat from Vince (still in stock!).
Houndstooth has long been a staple of royal wardrobes, and Kate Middleton often turns to the plaid print, as did Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth. The “quirky check originated in the Scottish Lowlands in the 1800s,” as Nell Scovell wrote in Town & Country in 2020, notting the “versatility of houndstooth clearly transcends time, space, and class.”
Now, with Swift turning to the print multiple times this autumn, the pop star has proved definitively that a houndstooth coat is a necessity for your fall wardrobe.
Now that Swift’s Eras Tour concert film is in theaters, many Swifties are figuring out what they should wear to watch the movie. If they want to channel Swift’s current autumn style: a houndstooth coat is the way to go.
